MAXISAT Selects ARRIS GT-3 Transcoder to Deliver Multiscreen Content Hub

ARRIS transcoding solution enables new multiscreen content services making the next era of entertainment a reality

MAXISAT, a leading provider of managed and operated Multiscreen TV services, has selected the G-T3 Multiple Bitrate (MBR) Transcoder by ARRIS Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRS) to power its Content Hub. The Content Hub complements MAXISAT’s MAXICASTER next generation TV back-end to provide an end-to-end TV solution. As a result service providers and broadcasters can rapidly introduce an online multiscreen service without facing costly infrastructure, operational or content distribution headaches.

MAXISAT recognized the increasing trend towards multiscreen video consumption and needed a solution that could handle the variety of video data rates and resolutions to match the dynamic bandwidth of unmanaged networks.

The high throughput capacity of the ARRIS GT-3 delivers industry-leading channel density and low power consumption compared to existing software-based MBR transcoder solutions. Its efficiency in video compression can provide higher-quality video using the same amount of bandwidth, or the same video quality at much lower bitrates - a key consideration for bandwidth-constrained networks. The GT3 provides MAXISAT with an effective video processing solution for offering content to a wide range screens, tapping into demand from consumers to watch what they want, where they want. By housing the GT-3 in the Content Hub, Maxisat is hosting and operating the infrastructure on behalf of the service providers offering significant cost and efficiency benefits.

“With our MAXICASTER solution and Content Hub, MAXISAT is looking to directly address one of the traditional challenges faced by Service Providers and Broadcasters entering the online multiscreen domain. Offering a truly end-to-end multiscreen service which is managed on behalf of our customers significantly de-risks service launch and builds the foundations for a sustainable service. But making this a reality requires technology which is up to the task.” said Tommi Blom, CEO MAXISAT.

“The unmatched transcoding capabilities offered by the ARRIS GT-3 allowed us to address the multiscreen requirements of our customers with a quality of experience which is second to none. When combined within our hosted and operated service we believe we take a unique position in the managed TV service market.”

The success of the Nordic Content Hub has led MAXISAT to incorporate the ARRIS GT-3 as the default transcoder as part of its international expansion of the MAXICASTER solution.

“MAXISAT is a forward-thinking company that knows how to meet increasing consumer demand for a varied and convenient video content experience - today and in the future,” said Steve McCaffery, Senior Vice President, EMEA & Asia Pacific, ARRIS. “Our - solution bolsters MAXISAT’s capabilities for greater bandwidth optimization, enabling it to deliver a wider range of multiscreen content to other operators, and ultimately gifting consumers with a wider choice and an improved experience.”
